Five JRPG titles that you want to play

Nier: Automata

Released in 2017, this game has an open-world framework, and the primary gameplay can often change on the fly during missions. In a matter of minutes, players can transition from hacking and slicing through foes in the third person to platforming through side-scrolling sequences. Shoot 'em-up battles and bullet hell bosses only contribute to the melting pot of concepts that all amazingly blend together to provide a completely unique experience unlike anything else in video games.

Kingdom Hearts 2

Released in 2006, Kingdom Hearts II follows Sora, Donald, and Goofy as they hunt for their missing pals and battle the villainous Organization XIII. The game expands on everything that made the first so fantastic while also bringing new Disney Worlds to explore and new characters to play as (including fan favorite Roxas.) The gameplay is a significant step up from the original, with the addition of Drive Forms making the hack-and-slash combat much more exciting, and the Gummi Ship sections were overhauled in direct response to fan criticism.

Persona 4 Golden

Released in 2012, Persona 4 Golden has turn-based fighting in dungeons that are constructed at random. The basic gameplay cycle alternates between dungeon exploration and building your social connections with other characters, which might result in the unlocking of Personas and acquiring new skills. Persona 4 Golden is the PlayStation Vita's magnum opus, a JRPG masterpiece that solidified the series' grandeur and paved the path for the future.

Chrono Trigger

Released in 1995, Chrono Trigger is an RPG produced by a supergroup known as the "Dream Team" at Square Enix. The fundamental forces behind it were Final Fantasy series founder Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, and Dragon Ball mangaka Akira Toriyama, and the result was an epic sci-fi adventure unlike any other. The plot follows Chrono and his party members as they travel across time in the hopes of averting a worldwide disaster. The story is set in an Earth-like universe and spans numerous historical eras, including the prehistoric past, the Middle Ages, and a grim post-apocalyptic future.

Final Fantasy VII

Released in 1997, the seventh installment in the Final Fantasy series is revolutionary. FF7 is widely recognized as the most influential JRPG ever released, popularizing the role-playing genre and increasing PlayStation sales worldwide. The game's plot is intriguing, compelling, and full of memorable characters. It's an emotional story with depth and unexpected events that will leave an impression on any gamer. In contrast to previous entries, Final Fantasy 7 chose a steampunk science fiction setting as a backdrop to Cloud's timeless story.
