A few weeks ago we talked about the changes that Chamber would have once the update 5.12 was up. And it was stated by Kevin Meier, Agent designer on VALORANT, that the reason Chamber needed to be balanced was because "his current mechanics were shaping play space in an unhealthy way, infringing on other Agent identities, and breaking VALORANT's core tactical cycle."

Many comments and reactions are saying "Chamber is dead" due to his changes, and in a way it is true. This beloved agent will no longer be able to be played in the same way that we knew. His gameplay had great advantages that were noticeable from the lowest to the highest ranks, and this balance has brought him down from what used to be his throne.

How much have his abilities changed?

Let's listen to Seangares, Pro CSGO player for Cloud9, Valorant Coach for 100T, and Valorant VCT Analyst, analyzing Chamber's changes and how his play-style will be on every map. If you didn't know about the current abilities that Chamber now has, this is a good video to start with:

Crazy, right? VALORANT is a game where obtaining information about enemies' locations is very crucial. One single step is enough information for someone to aim their weapon at the expected place that someone can peek at you. Chamber could get important information at the very start of every round and immediately move to a distant safe spot that the opponent team won't know.

Everyone was aware that his strongest ability was the Teleport, and that's why it was the most significant change for him. Now you have one anchor only, and it actually requires more strategic positioning and thinking to make good plays with it. It can still be considered useful, but not as much as it used to.

The Trademark is another big change for this sentinel, it used to provide valuable information once it spotted an enemy player at any place on the map where it was set up, if it was destroyed still counts as information: "Someone is at that location!" you would tell your teammates. It now works differently. If you remember Killjoy's alarm bot ability, well, it's pretty much the same.

Once you place your Trademark it takes 4 seconds for it to be set up, and if you go too far from it, it will stop working. You can call it back and use it somewhere else during the match. Its utility has greatly decreased. Regarding his ultimate ability Tour De Force, it now shoots as if it was an Operator rather than a Marshall.

We can see interesting reactions from professional players like Tenz, who provided an interesting overview of Chamber's new abilities at the practice range:

We also have Shahzam's interesting reaction and comments on Chamber's new abilities. Probably most of the players will say the same once they play with him.

Be careful. If you main Chamber and forget about his changes in this patch, you might encounter situations such as the one that PRX Davai (Malaysian player who currently plays for Paper Rex) had during a live stream. Watch it below:

Can we say that Chamber is useless now? Not really. Chamber has the role of sentinel, and his previous abilities allowed him to be aggressive to the point that he could be considered a semi-duelist. Many players have stated that this change is for good and will permit Chamber to be played more as a sentinel instead of a duelist that takes not only information but also eliminations. He was a game-changer agent.
