Ah, arcade games; how can you not love them? When we were little, going out to the arcades to use all our money trying to humiliate strangers in a fighting game was our bread and butter.
At LevelUp, we love the idea of going to a crowded place full of people yelling at each other because the kid who only uses Ryu won't stop spamming Hadokens; that's why today we bring you a top five arcade titles that you will surely remember fondly.
Top five arcade games
Donkey Kong (1981)
Donkey Kong is the first time Nintendo's famed Mario appears. While not as well-known as Super Mario Bros., it is undoubtedly Nintendo's most influential game in terms of modern titles. The popular platformer genre, possibly the most iconic video game genre, was inspired by the construction-site-themed hit. This is before we even get to Mario's debut.
Street Fighter II (1991)
It's difficult to overestimate the impact of Street Fighter II and its sequels. The ensemble cast and combos influenced games from League of Legends to God of War. Not to add that its competitive scene foreshadowed modern competitive gaming. Street Fighter II inspired the structure of Call of Duty and Starcraft competitions.
Ms. Pac-Man (1981)
Ms. Pac-Man is likely the best gaming sequel of all time. Despite not selling as many copies as the original, she outperforms her husband in terms of critical acclaim and legacy. Ms. Pac-Man's tweaks on the original made it more compelling. Ghost behavior has been adjusted, and new maps have been added. These modifications are now included as standard in more recent Pac-Man games.
Mortal Kombat II (1993)
This fighting franchise's second installment, like Street Fighter, was a smash hit. Mortal Kombat II, unlike Street Fighter II, was a refinement of the previous entry. It included more gruesome deaths as well as new aspects such as friendship. It also expanded the series' mythology, introducing new characters and narratives that other serialized game brands would emulate.
X-Men vs. Street Fighter (1996)
X-Men vs. Street Fighter is an arcade video game that mixes characters and mechanics from the X-Men comic book series and Street Fighter Alpha 2. Created by Capcom in 1996, its most notable feature is the pair combat. Later this mixture or fusion of fighting games would be called Crossover. The following entries from this saga would become Marvel vs. Capcom.

There you have it, five great titles that have become part of gaming history. Legendary franchises that to this day continue to surprise us with new releases. We loved playing them at the time in the arcades, as well as today, on our consoles.
