The price of Switch 2 games remains a controversial topic, especially after the company failed to provide clear details during the console’s reveal. As expected, Nintendo is releasing enhanced ports of some popular Switch games, labeled Switch 2 Editions.

One of the most anticipated titles is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, now enhanced for the new hardware and featuring support for ZELDA NOTES. However, Nintendo has confirmed that the new edition will not come bundled with the DLC content. Players will need to spend $70 on the base game and another $20 to get the full package.

Those who already own the game on the original Switch can access the upgraded features through a paid enhancement pack, or free of charge if subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online.

This decision has angered many players, especially newcomers. Fans are frustrated with the lack of transparency around pricing, and point out that Breath of the Wild has remained at full price since its launch in 2017. Many also expected a model similar to other publishers, who typically include DLC in re-releases.

Nintendo has acknowledged concerns over the cost of its new console and games, even recommending the original Switch as an alternative for those unable to afford the upgrade.

Still, with global trade issues and inflation affecting consumer spending, some worry that this pricing model could alienate part of the player base.
