Nintendo revealed the cost of updates in Japan. Thanks to this, we now have an estimated price for our region. It’s important to note that there will not be a standard price, as it will vary depending on the content included in the upgrade packs for the games.

How much will the upgrade packs for Switch 2 cost?
Some Switch games will have improvements and more content on Switch 2
During the latest Direct, Nintendo confirmed that Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pokémon Legends Z-A, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land will receive multiple performance improvements and will be compatible with new features of Switch 2. Additionally, some titles will have new, exclusive content.
Players will have the option to purchase these re-releases in both physical and digital formats. If you already own a copy of the games, you’ll only need to buy the respective upgrade pack. The issue is that Nintendo had not revealed the cost of these updates. Now, we know that in Japan, they will cost ¥1000 JPY and ¥2000 JPY, which translates to $6.87 USD and $13.74 USD, respectively. This also equals $137.10 MXN and $274.20 MXN.
Price varies depending on the content offered in the upgrade packs
The price of the upgrade will vary depending on the content offered for the games. For example, the cheapest upgrade packs will be for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will receive optimizations and compatibility with certain features but no new content.
In the case of Super Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, players will have to pay for the more expensive updates, as these will include new features like additional game modes, more story content, etc. It’s important to mention that their price in dollars and Mexican pesos hasn’t been officially confirmed. U.S. players estimate that the upgrade packs will cost around $10 USD and $20 USD, respectively.
Some upgrade packs will be available at no additional cost
Nintendo wants players of Switch 2 to relive some of the best games from the current console without needing to pay extra. Therefore, users of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will have free access to the upgrade packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
On Switch 2, both games will feature reduced load times, improvements in resolution and frame rate, HDR support, and will be compatible with ZELDA NOTES, a service offering various guides and an achievement system.
