Nintendo is expanding its most popular franchises across multiple media formats. That’s why, in November 2023, the company announced a live-action The Legend of Zeldamovie, based on one of its most beloved sagas. While details about the adaptation have been scarce, today brought an exciting surprise—the official release date has been revealed.
Nintendo Announces The Legend of Zelda Movie Release Date via New App
During its latest Nintendo Direct, the company unveiled Nintendo Today!, a brand-new app designed to provide fans with the latest news about Mario and other iconic Nintendo characters. Interestingly, it was through this very app that Nintendo confirmed the long-awaited release date of The Legend of Zelda’s live-action film.
Unfortunately, fans will need plenty of patience, as the movie is still years away from hitting theaters worldwide.

In a surprise move, Nintendo released a short video this morning through its new Nintendo Today! app, sharing more details about the upcoming adaptation. Most notably, the video confirmed that The Legend of Zelda’s live-action movie will debut on March 26, 2027.
That means fans still have a two-year wait ahead. Sadly, Nintendo did not provide additional production details, and the movie’s cast remains a mystery.
Additionally, it’s unclear whether the film will adapt a specific Zelda game or incorporate elements from multiple titles in the franchise. While the announcement has sparked excitement among fans, the long wait has left some feeling bittersweet.
