Nintendo postponed pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the United States following the announcement of President Donald Trump’s tariffs. The company explained that it needs time to evaluate how these measures will affect its launch plans and the pricing of the new console.
The repercussions of this decision are already being felt beyond U.S. borders. Canada has also postponed its pre-order campaign for the Switch 2, and concerns are rising across Latin America regarding possible delays in the region.
Switch 2 Pre-Order Launch Stalled in Canada
Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders in Canada will be on hold until the financial situation becomes clearer. While no new date has been announced, the company appears to be aiming for a coordinated rollout in both markets.

Despite these delays, the official release date of the Nintendo Switch 2 remains the same for both the U.S. and Canada. The console is still scheduled to launch on June 5, 2025.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the United States. Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged,” Nintendo of Canada said in a statement.
Uncertainty in Latin America
With both the U.S. and Canada experiencing delays, players in Latin America are anxious about what this means for them. Due to strong trade ties with the U.S. and Canada, there’s growing speculation that countries like Mexico could face similar disruptions.
So far, Nintendo has not announced any changes to pre-order dates in Latin America. However, the company has yet to confirm official pricing for the console and its games in the region, leaving many questions unanswered.
