The release of Final Fantasy VII Remake was a dream come true for the countless fans who played the original 1997 entry. However, despite its arrival on PC shortly after its PlayStation 4 launch, Xbox players have yet to experience it. That could change very soon.

This reimagined version of Square Enix’s beloved JRPG debuted on Sony’s console in 2020 as a temporary exclusive, with the PC port following in 2021. Meanwhile, the sequel launched for PS5 in 2024, with availability on Steam and Epic Games Store in early 2025.

As expected, Xbox Series X|S owners have been eagerly awaiting the chance to join Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and the rest of the gang. If the statements of a reliable insider are correct, it looks like the long-awaited port could be launching this year — and there’s good news for those anticipating the sequel as well.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth Coming to Xbox Soon?

Earlier this year, insider NateTheHate, known for providing credible leaks, claimed that the Xbox port of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XVI would be announced in Spring 2025, with both games making their debut on Microsoft’s console in the same year.

While no official details have emerged yet, it’s important to note that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the enhanced version that includes a new chapter featuring Yuffie, is confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. This announcement was made during the unveiling of the new console.

So, could Final Fantasy VII Remake head to Xbox Series X|S? NateTheHate responded to a fan’s comment and reiterated that the Xbox port of the remake is indeed slated for release at some point in 2025.

The insider also confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the trilogy, is expected to hit the Xbox ecosystem in 2026. While he withheld further specifics, he assured fans that it’s only a matter of time before Square Enix and Microsoft make the official announcement.

At the time of writing, it remains unclear whether the JRPG will indeed land on Xbox Series X|S. Regardless, the Nintendo Switch 2 release will mark the end of the remake’s console exclusivity.

Square Enix to End Console Exclusivity After Failures of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and FF XVI

It makes perfect sense that Square Enix might move away from exclusivity in the future. Despite Final Fantasy VII Rebirth receiving critical acclaim, it failed to meet commercial expectations, and FF XVI also had a disappointing performance.

It seems that both games struggled, partly due to their PlayStation 5 exclusivity. With this in mind, the Japanese company has announced its intention to adopt a multiplatform strategy for future releases.
