As video game adaptations continue to gain traction in Hollywood, PlayStation is making a major push to bring its most iconic franchises to television and film. Leading the charge is the eagerly anticipated live-action God of War series.
Although Kratos’ adventures are still a long way from hitting the small screen, Amazon appears to have full confidence in the project. According to writer and showrunner Ronald D. Moore, the company has already given the green light for two seasons.
A Saga That Commands Bold Moves
Moore, a seasoned writer known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: The Next Generation, took the reins of the God of War adaptation after Mark Fergus, Hawk Ostby, and Rafe Judkins exited the project in 2024 citing creative differences.
Speaking with actress Katee Sackhoff onThe Sackhoff Show, Moore, who joined the show within a week of the previous team’s departure, made a major revelation—Amazon isn’t just backing God of War; they’ve already doubled down on the saga.

“Right now I’m working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of. They’ve asked me to come in and I’m literally in the writers’ room working on that. That’s my new thing.”
During the conversation, Moore also admitted that he hasn’t been deeply involved with video games since the golden age of arcades in the 1980s. He even confessed that he tried playing God of War but found it challenging to get used to modern controllers and the fast-paced combat style of this saga.
While he didn’t disclose additional details, the fact that Amazon has committed to multiple seasons before the first has even begun filming signals significant faith in the series’ potential.
20 Years of God of War: PlayStation’s Big Plans for the Anniversary
Before Kratos embarks on his live-action journey, fans will have the chance to celebrate two decades of epic battles and storytelling. God of War turns 20 this year, and PlayStation isn’t letting the occasion go unnoticed.
Though the long-rumored remastered collection remains a mystery, Santa Monica Studio is hosting a special panel on March 22, where TC Carson and Christopher Judge—the voices behind Kratos—will reunite to reflect on the franchise’s legacy.
To top it off, God of War Ragnarök will receive a special anniversary update, bringing new free content to players as a tribute to the saga’s enduring impact.
