CD Projekt RED once stellar reputation was tarnished after the release of Cyberpunk 2077. The game launched on consoles with severe performance issues and numerous technical problems, making it virtually unplayable at times.

The Polish studio has repeatedly assured fans that such a situation will not happen again. However, many are still worried about the upcoming debut of The Witcher IV on consoles. Concerns are mounting that CD Projekt RED might repeat the same mistakes, potentially turning Ciri adventure into another problematic release.

Fortunately, the company is well aware of the community’s apprehensions. To address this, it has made a significant promise: The Witcher IV will not follow in the footsteps of Cyberpunk 2077.

The rocky launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was a major headache for CD Projekt RED. Console players, particularly on older-generation hardware, bore the brunt of the issues, with the futuristic RPG riddled with bugs, poor performance, and technical problems. The backlash was fierce, both from fans and the gaming press, severely damaging the studio’s reputation.

Determined to avoid a repeat of history, CD Projekt RED has spent the past few years working to regain the trust of its fans. As The Witcher IV is a highly anticipated title, the company is taking extra measures to ensure a polished release.

To this end, the studio has promised to pay special attention to the quality control process for The Witcher IV on current-generation consoles. The aim is to ensure that the game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S without significant issues, avoiding another high-profile stumble.

Małgorzata Mitręga, the game's executive producer, reassured console players, stating that constant testing is being conducted to ensure the RPG runs smoothly on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

"We iterate often, play the game a lot. That was one of our things - even at the very beginning, [to] make sure it's working on the console, and we play it. We take it really seriously ."

With this commitment, fans can rest assured that CD Projekt RED is focused on safeguarding its hard-earned reputation and maintaining the trust it has worked tirelessly to rebuild.

Ciri will be the protagonist of The Witcher IV

The reveal of The Witcher IV left fans with many questions, especially since Geralt of Rivia will not be the main character. CD Projekt RED recently clarified that choosing Ciri as the lead was a natural and obvious decision, given her significant role in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, which serve as the inspiration for the games.

The studio emphasized that the protagonist change is more than just cosmetic. As a younger heroine, Ciri enables a unique combat style and other changes to the franchise that wouldn’t have been feasible with Geralt of Rivia.
