CD Projekt RED is preparing several The Witcher projects, including a new trilogy that will further expand the universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski. Fans of the saga are very excited, as the studio recently spoke about The Witcher 4, its upcoming title known by the codename Project Polaris.
To be precise, the company gave an update on the current state of its development. Fortunately, there’s very good news for players awaiting the adventure, as everything is on track and, as expected, it is one of CD Projekt RED’s priorities.
The Witcher 4 begins large-scale production
CD Projekt RED had been preparing for months to begin large-scale production of The Witcher 4. In a statement, Michał Nowakowski, the studio’s co-executive director, confirmed that the game has completed its pre-production phase.
Now, the development team will begin the large-scale production phase, and the creatives are very excited. This is a central stage of development, as this is where all the ideas for the new installment will be materialized.
"I'm proud to confirm that several weeks ago the Polaris team wrapped up preproduction and moved on to full-scale production – the most intensive phase of development.”
For his part, Sebastian Kalemba, the game’s director, also celebrated the news. Through his social media, he shared his excitement about starting this new stage of the project’s development and encouraged fans to stay tuned for more news about The Witcher 4.
"I'm thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase! With new challenges just around the corner, it’s the talented and hard-working people who make me believe we can together make the upcoming Witcher Saga a remarkable experience.”
Unfortunately, no details about the game were shared. Additionally, it’s a fact that the wait will still be long, as the production phase of an AAA game can last for 3 years or even more. That said, the wait to enjoy The Witcher 4 will still be a lengthy one.
What other The Witcher projects are coming?
CD Projekt RED has other The Witcher projects in development. To begin with, it wants to bring back the adventure of Geralt of Rivia, which started it all. For this reason, it is working on a remake of the first game in the franchise.
Additionally, it is preparing a spin-off, with very few details available, and of course, it has other 2 games from the saga to complete the new trilogy that will begin with The Witcher 4. With that in mind, the franchise has a very promising future that we will enjoy in the coming years.
