The PC gaming world is fascinating but comes with its challenges. The most significant is often the high price. It’s possible to build a powerful computer or buy a laptop with great specs at a moderate price, but staying at the cutting edge requires a substantial investment. One gamer had to make a major sacrifice to acquire his PC.

Gamer Struggles in Winter After Spending $4000 on His PC
In a reddit post, a user known as DowntownAd7613 captured the community’s attention with his story. He found himself enduring the cold because he was out of money—a situation made unique by his reason for being unable to buy a heater.
The gamer revealed in his post that he spent $4000 (about $79,368 MXN) on his gaming PC. However, he was tight-lipped about the details, not sharing specifics about the components he purchased that drove the price so high. Likewise, the exact specs of his current setup remain unknown.
Although playing AAA games with the best specs is a luxury justifying such an investment, this fan clearly didn’t prioritize wisely and ended up paying the price.
In particular, DowntownAd7613 admitted that due to his significant PC upgrade, he was left without funds to buy a heater to shield himself from the cold nights. But he found an unexpected solution to his problem.
Gamer Plays Red Dead Redemption 2 to Keep Warm, Worries the Community
Since he couldn’t afford heating, the gamer came up with a rather unorthodox but effective idea: turn on his PC and play Red Dead Redemption 2 with graphics settings maxed out so that the system’s heat would warm his room during the night.
"When you can’t afford a heater because you spent $4000 on a PC, so you have to leave the game running at max 4K settings overnight to keep from freezing."
DowntownAd7613 shared a photo showing that he was indeed playing Red Dead Redemption 2. Interestingly, the image features Arthur Morgan sitting by a campfire. “You know that fire only exists in the game, right?” joked one user.
Unsurprisingly, this post went viral on Reddit. It currently has over 1200 upvotes, with the community flocking to the comments section to weigh in. While some praised his resilience, others criticized his priorities and voiced concern.
“Why not just admit your priorities are out of order instead of flaunting them?” one user commented. Another added, “Don’t leave your monitor on. If you do, you could end up with burn-in.”
"If you can live with the higher energy bill, it’s great."
