The company has lowered its profit forecasts for the coming months

This morning, Nintendo shared its latest financial report. Thanks to this, we know that the Switch reached a new sales milestone; however, overall hardware and software sales decreased once again, as everyone awaits the Switch 2.

Due to this, Nintendo has once again adjusted its profit forecasts, recognizing that it won’t meet its original targets at the current sales pace. Despite the Switch remaining very popular with major titles still on the way, it’s a fact that the console, now 8 years in the market, has lost much of its commercial momentum.

How Much Has the Switch Sold, and What Are Its Most Popular Games?

Nintendo revealed that the Switch has already sold 146.04 million units worldwide, including sales registered up to September 30. This means the console sold 2.62 million additional units during the last quarter.

With this, the hybrid console reaffirms its place as one of the most successful consoles in Nintendo’s history, currently trailing behind the Nintendo DS, which reached an incredible 154 million units sold.

In terms of software, Nintendo sold 39.64 million games during the same period. This brings the total to 1,306.10 million titles since the launch of its popular console. The report also shared sales figures for recent releases, such as The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which has already sold 2.58 million units. Below is the updated list:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 64.27 million
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 46.45 million
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 35.14 million
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 32.29 million
  • Super Mario Odyssey – 28.50 million
  • Pokémon Sword & Shield – 26.44 million
  • Pokémon Scarlet & Violet – 25.69 million
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 21.04 million
  • Super Mario Party – 20.98 million
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 17.77 million
  • Nintendo Switch Sports – 14.37 million
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – 2.58 million
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door – 1.94 million
  • Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD – 1.57 million

Switch and Game Sales Drop Again

Despite this, Nintendo reported lackluster figures in its latest report, recording a drop in hardware and software sales, as well as in net earnings. Specifically, Switch sales dropped by 27.6%, while hardware sales decreased by 31%.

As a result, the company’s net sales fell by 34%. Due to this, Nintendo adjusted its forecasts for the coming months, now expecting net sales of $8.4 billion – 5% less than the initial forecast and 23% down from the previous fiscal year.

Additionally, the company reduced its operating profit forecast by 10%, representing a 32% decrease when compared to last fiscal year’s results. Analysts suggest that the only way for Nintendo to recover is by announcing the anticipated Switch successor, as it’s clear their current console is nearing the end of its cycle.
