Enjoying video games through a subscription service has its advantages but also some downsides. Platforms like PlayStation Plus offer an attractive catalog of modern and classic games, monthly featured titles, and other benefits. However, it’s well known that these services are subject to constant price increases.
Time and again, we’ve seen players invest a significant amount of money in subscriptions that last several years, even decades, to avoid future increases in the cost of their favorite services. A PlayStation fan recently surprised the community by revealing that they paid for PlayStation Plus for a full 24 years. Thanks to this, they’ll have access to the service and all its benefits until 2048.
Player Pays for 24 Years of PlayStation Plus
This week, a player known as On_Reddit_in_Class shared an interesting image on various forums that caught the attention of PlayStation fans. It shows their PlayStation Plus Premium subscription won’t expire until June 7, 2048, meaning they paid for 24 uninterrupted years of subscription.
According to details, the player decided to pay in advance to secure a long-term subscription and avoid potential price hikes for years to come. As you know, Sony and other companies adjust platform costs to remain profitable and offer appealing content to their users.
In this regard, it’s likely that PlayStation Plus will experience multiple price increases from now until 2048. Many players were surprised by On_Reddit_in_Class’s strategy and believe they would do something similar if their budget allowed, as it involves spending thousands of dollars.
On the other hand, some fans are unsure about committing to a service for so many years, as they’re uncertain about what might happen in the future or whether the platform will remain available as we know it today.
"I decided to stack PS Plus subscriptions until 2048 because of the absurd price increases the past few years. I figure that I’ll probably be gaming for most of my life so it would save a good bit of money. First I loaded up on Essentials subs and then upgraded it all to Premium for $199 USD. Just wanted to share as I figure you guys would get a kick out of it," explained the player.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a similar move. Other PlayStation players have used this tactic shortly before Sony raises the price of various service plans. Doing this with other services is often impossible, as companies sometimes restrict the accumulation of subscription time.
