"We won’t disappoint": PlayStation fans want to rescue this saga from oblivion and are asking Sony for the rights to the IP to create new projects

Throughout history, many franchises have been forgotten. Despite having passionate fans, sometimes IPs don’t meet the financial expectations of companies, which eventually leads them to be sidelined or definitively forgotten.

Recently, Guerrilla Games explained that they left Killzone behind to venture into developing Horizon, a saga that has gradually become a flagship of PlayStation. In contrast, the FPS saga has been buried in oblivion, and all indications suggest it won’t return.

In response, its fans decided to write an open letter to PlayStation and Guerrilla Games to make an important request: license the rights to the IP to create new projects for Killzone and thus rescue its legacy. Players even claimed that they won’t disappoint the companies with the results.

Roy Postma, art director at Guerrilla Games, revealed that they decided to move away from Killzone after the launch of Killzone: Shadow Fall for PlayStation 4. It was then that they began working on Horizon, which is now their flagship franchise.

Killzine, a fan group responsible for a fanzine about the franchise, shared on their social media the open letter to PlayStation and Guerrilla Games. They want to know if there is any project in development for the saga, because if not, they want to talk to someone to obtain the license for the IP so they can work on it. Their idea is to create a new project for the franchise to save it from oblivion.

“Are there any plans for further projects in the Killzone universe? Whether it be games or expanded universe outings (novels, animated shows, etc.); is anything in the works? If there is, we can’t wait to hear about them and will happily wait until they´re ready. If not, we want to have an honest conversation about licensing the IP ourselves. All we need to know is who to talk to,” the fan group stated.

Additionally, the players commented that they regret Killzone has been forgotten, as it was a saga they enjoyed for many years. They acknowledged that Guerrilla Games' focus on Horizon makes sense, as the franchise has proven to be quite popular.

"Fans believe Killzone is the type of FPS PlayStation needs"

Despite this, they believe Killzone deserves another chance. The fans said they “miss” the franchise and that it is exactly “the type of FPS PlayStation needs in its catalog.” For this reason, they promised the company that they wouldn’t disappoint with the results if they decided to license the IP.

The reality is that it seems unlikely that PlayStation and Sony will negotiate the rights to the IP. If they intended to, they would have possibly already arranged a new title with a third-party studio; however, no project has been confirmed as of now.
