Despite being over a decade old, Minecraft remains one of the most successful, popular, and beloved games among players. Thanks to its excellent reception, it expanded to multiple platforms over the years. Unfortunately, the developers recently confirmed that it will soon no longer be compatible with a couple of key devices.
Minecraft Bedrock, the version that unifies ports for consoles, PC, and mobile devices, first gained compatibility with Oculus Rift in 2016, followed by support for more VR headsets in 2017. In 2020, the PlayStation 4 edition also integrated PS VR in a free update.
Currently, the popular sandbox game by Mojang supports Oculus Rift, Quest Link, Windows Mixed Reality, and PlayStation VR. The VR version has become one of the most popular because it significantly enhances immersion and offers more possibilities.
Sadly, open-world game players will have to say goodbye to VR mode in a few months.

Minecraft to Lose VR Support on PC and PlayStation 4 in 2025
In mid-September, Mojang announced that the PS4 version of the game will no longer be compatible with the console’s VR device starting in March 2025. At that time, it was explained that the team is unable to continue supporting that version, and the VR feature will no longer work after the final update is released. Unfortunately, the same changes will affect PC players as well.
In an official blog post detailing the changes in the 1.21.40 update for Minecraft Bedrock, Jay Wells, community manager, stated that the PC version of the open-world title will also lose VR support at the beginning of next year.
“Our ability to support VR/MR devices has come to an end, and it will no longer be compatible with updates after March 2025, when the final update is released. After receiving the patch, [the game] will still get updates on PC but will be playable without a VR/MR device,” the patch notes state.
Mojang clarifies that Minecraft players will still be able to build worlds and access their purchases from the Marketplace (including Minecoins); however, they warn that they will have to play using a monitor or TV. Thus, players will no longer be able to use their VR devices to enter the game.
It’s worth noting that the new native version for PlayStation 5 is also not compatible with PS VR2, meaning VR support will no longer be available on any platform starting next year. However, fans can still turn to third-party alternatives to play in VR mode.
For example, players can install the Vivecraft mod for the Java version of Minecraft, though it doesn’t work on official servers. Similarly, the Questcraft modification allows using Meta Quest headsets.
