Dragon Ball Daima marks the return of the franchise to television after Dragon Ball Super ended in 2018. Overall, the first two episodes lived up to expectations and were well-received by the community due to their stunning animation and references to earlier series. However, they also sparked a lot of discussion, with fans crafting all sorts of theories.

The anime by Toei Animation received some negative criticism for altering the canon in several areas and creating new plot holes. For example, it changes how the Earth’s Dragon Balls work and the reason why Shin and Kibito unfused. Let’s not forget the events take place right after the defeat of Majin Buu.

That said, the show also brought back some elements that had been left behind over the years. For instance, Goku will once again use his iconic Power Pole in this new adventure. Similarly, it seems the series revived one of the most useful and forgotten techniques from the original manga, and many viewers likely didn’t notice.

Goten and Trunks use telepathy in Dragon Ball Daima

In the second episode of Dragon Ball Daima, the evil Gomah, the new Demon King, achieves his goal of turning Goku and his friends into mini versions of themselves with the help of the Dragon Balls and Shen Long. Since Goten and Trunks were children at the time of the wish, they were transformed into babies.

Naturally, you might think these characters wouldn’t be able to communicate properly due to their young age. However, the anime shows they can understand each other. How is this possible? It seems they used telepathy, one of the oldest techniques in the series.

Let’s recall that the first time someone communicated mentally with another person in the manga was during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. From that moment, multiple characters used it to speak at a distance and share messages.

Goku also used telepathy with King Kai many times. Even during the Frieza arc, he was able to read Krillin’s mind to quickly catch up on everything that happened on Namek in his absence.

Despite being one of the most useful techniques, that was the only time Goku used it. Additionally, it’s rare to see the Z Fighters using telepathy to communicate. That’s why it’s surprising that Goten and Trunks can speak mentally in Dragon Ball Daima, even though they’re babies due to the Dragon Balls' wish.

Of course, it shouldn’t be too surprising that Goku and Vegeta’s sons can communicate in this way. After all, they are close friends and, more importantly, when they fuse into Gotenks, they share a single mind.

It’s possible that the brief scene in Dragon Ball Daima is just a joke and won’t have long-term implications. Nonetheless, it’s good to see that Akira Toriyama and the writers at Toei Animation haven’t forgotten about one of the manga’s most iconic techniques.

But tell us, what did you think of the first episodes of the new anime? Let us know in the comments.
