Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is giving away a previously banned Pokémon: how to get shiny Meloetta?

Amid a historic leak, Game Freak finally distributes one of its shiny locked creatures

Game Freak has been the talk of the Pokémon community this week following the massive leak caused by a hack. But today, they are making headlines for announcing the historic distribution of a creature that was once impossible to obtain.

Meloetta made its debut in 2010 with the Nintendo DS titles Pokémon Black & White, available only through a special and limited distribution. Until now, it was one of the shiny locked Pokémon, meaning its shiny form existed in the game files but had never been officially released by Game Freak. Inserting and using hacked versions of these Pokémon was considered inappropriate and could result in a ban.

How to get shiny Meloetta in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

In the midst of the controversy, Game Freak decided it was a good time to free Meloetta from its shiny locked status.

Starting today, players of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet can obtain shiny Meloetta without the risk of being banned, as Game Freak is conducting the first official distribution of this unique Unova (Teselia) Pokémon.

To receive shiny Meloetta, players must meet an important condition: catch every Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. This includes not just the creatures found in the main map of Paldea, but also those in Kitakami and Blueberry Academy, meaning you will need the 2 DLCs from The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero and catch every available Pokémon in these 3 regions.

Next, players must register these creatures in the Pokémon HOME Pokédex to complete the entries for all 3 regions.

Once registered in Pokémon HOME, Meloetta can be claimed through the mystery gift function in the Pokémon HOME mobile app, which will then allow it to be transferred to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Each account is limited to receiving one shiny Meloetta, and for now, it is only compatible with Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

According to Serebii, the shiny Meloetta will be at level 50 with the moves Relic Song, Echoed Voice, Psybeam, and Sing, and will come in a Cherish Ball.
