No company is immune to hacking, and during the pandemic, many gaming companies were hit by these vulnerabilities, including Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Capcom, Kadokawa—and now, one of the most secretive companies in the industry: Game Freak.
The Japanese company responsible for Pokémon is reportedly facing one of the worst weekends in its history, as it has emerged that they may have been the victim of a major hack of unprecedented scale, revealing information about both past and future games.
Initial reports indicate that the leak could be several gigabytes in size and includes betas or early versions of current developments, as well as the source code for Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver and Pokémon Black 2 & White 2.

Game Freak's Gigaleak reveals unannounced Pokémon games
The most notable part of the leak is the mention of two unannounced projects. One of them is the next mainline entry in the Pokémon series, specifically the title for Generation X, featuring new trainers, a new region, and, of course, new Pokémon.
This isn’t exactly surprising, as it was something fans expected. However, reports indicate that the code name for this project is Gaia. Notably, reliable leaker Necrolipe has suggested that this title will release on both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, making it a cross-generational game, as references to Nintendo’s current system were found in the project files (via Centro LEAKS).
The second project is even more intriguing. It’s described as a multiplayer fighting game "in the style of Splatoon." This project is reportedly being co-developed by ILCA and Game Freak and is codenamed Synapse. You may remember that ILCA worked with The Pokémon Company on Pokémon HOME and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.
According to the reports, there is also information about Pokémon Legends: Z-A, with the code name Ikkaku.
More information is expected to be revealed in the coming hours or days. However, Necrolipe has indicated that the original hacker allegedly has no intention of sharing further details about the unannounced games.
As expected, Game Freak, Creatures, Nintendo, and ILCA have not yet commented on the hack, whether to confirm or deny it. We’ll keep you updated.
