Some PlayStation 5 fans are concerned about their controllers

One of the most exciting innovations of the PlayStation 5 is the DualSense, a next-gen controller with special features designed to enhance immersion and add extra depth to gameplay. However, many users have started experiencing issues with battery life.

Typically, a full charge of the PS5 controller lasts between 6 and 12 hours, depending on the game and the features used during the session. However, some users are reporting that the battery is draining more quickly than usual.

PlayStation 5 players are concerned about the DualSense battery life

As reported by our friends at Tarreo, a user known as wu_desciple took to Reddit to express their concerns about the current battery life of their DualSense. In a post, they explained that after the latest update, their controller’s charge lasts only 2 hours.

“Since the latest PS5 update, I noticed that my PS5 controller battery drains way too fast, even when I only use it to stream. It dies after 2 hours, and I noticed this right after the latest patch. Has anyone else experienced this or noticed something with their controller?” the user wrote.

There doesn’t seem to be a concrete answer yet. Some suggest the culprit might be Astro Bot, widely regarded as one of the best games of 2024. This game makes extensive use of the adaptive triggers, built-in speakers, vibration system, and other DualSense features.

Other players support this theory with their own experiences, claiming that the features of Team Asobi’s game cause the PlayStation 5 controller battery to drain faster. However, wu_desciple clarified they didn’t play Astro Bot and had just finished Black Myth: Wukong.

Some believe that the DualSense battery may have reached the end of its lifespan and might need replacing. The user mentioned that they had the controller for 3 years.

“Battery life varies by game. But, since you’ve had your controller for a while, yes, the battery is likely wearing out. I have a controller that lasts one hour, and I’ve had it for about 2 years. I asked Sony support, and they recommended replacing the battery,” another user commented.

However, some others confirm they started noticing shorter battery life after the latest update.

“I literally haven’t used my PS5 in the last few weeks except for Netflix, and I noticed the same thing. Before the update, it would last almost a week before hitting low battery. Now it lasts 2 days, max,” said one user. “Both of my controllers now die 100% faster since the patch; I noticed this yesterday,” added another.
