Video games have become the world's largest pastime, and among their biggest fans are professional athletes. Due to the nature of their activity, they often have more free time or long stretches of concentration where they cannot engage in activities outside of their preparation for a match or competition. This is where gaming comes to the rescue, sometimes serving as a way to cope with difficult times, just like with a star from Real Madrid.

Dani Carvajal will rely on video games while recovering from his serious injury

Last weekend, Dani Carvajal, right-back for Real Madrid, suffered a severe injury during the match against Villarreal CF. The play made headlines worldwide, and the following day it was confirmed that he had torn three ligaments in his right knee, including the anterior cruciate ligament, one of the most dreaded injuries for any footballer. This means the player will spend months away from the pitch, leading to a period of rest after his surgery, followed by rehabilitation to be ready for next year.

Well, Dani Carvajal came through his surgery successfully, and now that he has so much free time, he has decided to spend some of it playing video games and even streaming. This comes from a photo shared by the Real Madrid right-back showing him in a match of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a DualShock 4 controller, and a setup for capturing video, audio, and likely streaming.

Even though it has been 4 years since the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it seems the footballer feels comfortable with this title, as well as with the PlayStation 4 controller, which can also connect to PC—a matter of personal preference.

Gaming and sports have made headlines in recent years; for instance, during Euro 2024, they were at the center of controversy when it was reported that Italian national team coach Luciano Spalletti banned video games during training. In the end, it was revealed that this was not true, as the coach only requested discipline and respect for free time, and it was even confirmed that they had a game room with PS5 units.
