DC Comics boasts some of the most iconic characters in popular culture, so it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. would want to explore their potential in the gaming world. A new hint suggests that the studio responsible for the divisive 2022 release, Gotham Knights, is already working on a new project.
Before taking on the video game starring Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood, WB Games Montréal was responsible for porting Batman: Arkham City to the Nintendo Wii U. They later developed their own installment in the franchise: Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to the Rocksteady trilogy.
After the release of Gotham Knights in October 2022, the studio has remained quiet; however, new clues suggest they’re already working on a new game set in the DC Comics universe.
WB Games Montréal is working on a new DC Comics game, according to a job listing
The first reports about WB Games Montréal’s new title emerged in December 2022 when Bryan Theberge, a producer at WB Games Montréal, updated his personal LinkedIn profile and revealed he was working on a yet-to-be-announced project.
Later, in March 2024, a job listing for a creative director position indicated that the successful candidate would work on a AAA game based on “a popular franchise.” As if that wasn’t enough, a new job posting recently surfaced, generating even more buzz.
In this latest job listing, the studio highlighted that they are looking for a senior producer to oversee the development of the new project. While the job description is brief and doesn’t offer many details, it does confirm that the qualified individual will work on a AAA video game set in the DC Comics universe.
According to reports, this part of the job description was later removed, and now the listing only states that the successful candidate will work at WB Games Montréal under Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Judging by the job listing, it seems the project is still in the early stages of development. Details are scarce, so it’s unclear whether this will be a sequel to Gotham Knights or an entirely original title. Fans, however, are crossing their fingers for a game featuring Superman.
Recent DC Comics video game projects have struggled to meet expectations. While Gotham Knights received mixed reviews and saw lackluster commercial performance, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League by Rocksteady was met with highly negative reviews and failed to sell well. It's also worth noting that Monolith Productions is working on a Wonder Woman game, but its status remains unclear.
