Disney will bring more content to Fortnite: Battle Royale with one condition: some of its characters will have skins without weapons

The companies revealed more details about their important partnership

Disney and Epic Games have been working together for months to bring content from iconic franchises to Fortnite. Their agreement was recently extended with a multi-year deal, in which they will build a shared experience for fans of both universes.

In recent weeks, content from Marvel and Pixar has flooded Fortnite with attractive skins for the Battle Royale mode and LEGO Fortnite. Both companies are happy with the results, so they recently reaffirmed their commitment to bring even more themed content to players.

Saxs Persson, Executive Vice President of Epic Games, confirmed that in the future we will see more Disney content in the game; however, there are certain conditions for this to happen, such as some characters’ skins from the entertainment giant not using weapons.

According to Persson, the goal of their collaboration is to create a persistent universe where players can access a lot of Disney content while enjoying the various experiences that Fortnite currently offers.

"Disney wants a persistent place where all things Disney can be there, but they want to be part of an ecosystem we’ve built. We see the power of ecosystems interoperating as being really the magic here. From a player perspective, you want to be able to flow between a Fortnite experience, a Disney experience, or any experience really," the executive stated.

He added that players will be able to explore the Disney universe, either through themed content or what Fortnite will offer in the future as part of its overall universe. Their idea is to interconnect both universes without neglecting the franchises or brands.

Because of this, they will adhere to certain policies regarding how Disney maintains the reputation and characters of its sagas. Therefore, some skins from this collaboration are expected not to use weapons. Disney believes that it has franchises that can adapt to various types of experiences and audiences, and this distinction will define what can or cannot be done with certain outfits.

"Not every outfit will be able to do everything. A [LEGO] minifig doesn’t hold a gun. Brands should be able to enforce the brand guidelines to the degree that they’re comfortable with that brand being associated with particular ratings," the executive concluded.

At the time of writing, neither Epic Games nor Disney has confirmed when they will reveal their new shared universe. For now, we only know that Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook will be the next characters to arrive in Fortnite.
