According to Rebs Gaming, Project Tatanka was canceled after 343 Industries changed its roadmap to define the future of Halo. The report claims this happened in January 2023, after it became clear that Halo Infinite had not met the expectations of fans or Microsoft.

343 Industries was reportedly doing everything possible to make the Battle Royale a great experience for players, conducting weekly internal tests to analyze what could be improved or changed.

Regarding the game itself, Rebs Gaming claims that it was supposed to feature a map on Zeta Halo, which would have had various biomes, giving matches more variety. Players would supposedly descend into the combat zone in ODST-style pods.

Like any Battle Royale, players would be able to freely explore Project Tatanka’s map to collect weapons, shields, and other combat items. Additionally, there was mention of a mission system that could be completed during matches for rewards.

There were also vehicles in the game. The source states that Pelicans would drop Warthogs, Mongooses, and Falcons for players to use in exploration and combat.

Lastly, it was revealed that the Battle Royale was going to be tied to the campaign’s storyline. As of writing, 343 Industries has not commented on this report. For that reason, it's best to treat this as a rumor.
