Despite its eccentricities, Death Stranding was one of the most talked-about video games in 2019 and the following months. Its fans are in luck, as a sequel is in development with several members of the original cast. While the exact debut date remains unknown, new information about its release date has recently been shared.
As previously hinted, Hideo Kojima and other members of his development studio attended the Tokyo Game Show 2024 to reveal new details about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. There, they showcased new characters and revealed the robust photo mode, which will allow players to capture all kinds of fun moments.
Although specific information about the release window was not shared, the Kojima Productions team promised that there will be news in 2025.

Death Stranding 2 already has a release date, but it wasn’t revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2024
During the Japanese event presentation, Hideo Kojima announced that the development team has already set the release date for the highly anticipated narrative game starring Léa Seydoux and Norman Reedus, but there’s bad news: he couldn’t reveal it over the weekend due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
However, the Japanese creator stated that the debut of Death Stranding 2 is expected in 2025, and they plan to share more information throughout next year. He also mentioned that he and the other studio members are already preparing for the release date.
“I haven’t announced the release date today, but the date has already been decided… As we’re talking about 2025, it will be released next year, so we will announce it sometime next year. But due to some unforeseen circumstances, we cannot announce it today,” Kojima commented.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was announced with great fanfare in 2022 during the The Game Awards. Fans had hoped it would make an appearance at this year’s event hosted by Geoff Keighley, but in the end, they will have to wait until 2025 to find out when they can continue the adventure of Sam Porter Bridges and Fragile.
Hideo Kojima did not share more information on what prevented him from revealing the release date during the presentation. Of course, there’s a possibility that, like other studios, he might be waiting for Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games to confirm when Grand Theft Auto VI will debut, which is expected to launch in the fall of 2025.
During Tokyo Game Show 2024, a 20-minute preview of Death Stranding 2 was shown, featuring characters played by George Miller, Elle Fanning, and Shioli Kutsuna.
