StarCraft is part of the golden age of Blizzard. However, the franchise has been on ice for years and has not seen a new installment. The studio has tried to take the saga to new genres with projects like StarCraft: Ghost and Ares, shooters that were ultimately canceled.

According to reports from a very reliable source, the studio has not given up and plans to bring back its iconic strategy saga, but with a shooter. Jason Schreier, a renowned journalist from Bloomberg, revealed the first details about it.

Schreier published some time ago Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, his new book that provides an interesting overview of the studio's history, which is now in the hands of Xbox. Thanks to his research, he is aware of what the company is cooking up.

According to his sources, Blizzard will attempt for the third time to make a shooter based on StarCraft. For various reasons, StarCraft: Ghost and Ares could not come to fruition. Additionally, the saga as an RTS has not had new installments. For this reason, the news generates excitement among its fans.

The community that has enjoyed StarCraft knows that it has a very interesting lore that could easily be explored from other perspectives. It is no coincidence that there have been requests for years for Blizzard to revive the saga in one way or another.

According to the information, Dan Hay, a former developer of Far Cry who joined Blizzard in 2022, is working on the new project, which would still be in its early stages of development. Schreier clarified that, for now, he does not know the current status of the project.

“If it's not cancelled, I mean, this is Blizzard after all … Yes, that is a project that, as far as I knew, was in development. At least, as of the time that I wrote this book," the journalist stated.

StarCraft: Ghost was supposed to be a third-person shooter starring Nova, a Terran operator. On the other hand, it is known that Ares was going to have a similar concept, as it was also going to focus on the third person and a story centered on that faction.
