One of the most controversial announcements from the recent State of Play was the remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn for PlayStation 5 and PC. Guerrilla Games worked with Nixxes to bring Aloy's first adventure up to the technical standards of Horizon Forbidden West, resulting in multiple improvements.

Despite this, some fans believe the remaster is unnecessary and have strongly criticized the project. Shortly after, PlayStation shared all the enhancements included in this version to convince fans of the saga that it will be worth it. Additionally, they revealed whether this re-release will include its DLC, The Frozen Wilds.

To start, PlayStation confirmed that the remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn will include all its content, including The Frozen Wilds, the DLC that adds even more hours of fun to Aloy's journey.

As for the improvements, the game will feature 10 hours of re-recorded dialogue, graphical enhancements, and optimized motion capture. The goal is for the game to look as good as its sequel and for players to enjoy it in up to 4K resolution.

The studios have made improvements to animation systems, lighting, textures, and audio. In terms of audio, the sound mix has been revamped and will now take advantage of PlayStation's Tempest 3D audio system. Of course, the game will also be compatible with the DualSense's haptic feedback technology. Additionally, the controller will be used to introduce a new accessibility option, notifying players through vibrations when there is an object they can interact with.

Furthermore, the developers have decided to leverage the extra potential of the PS5 Pro to offer additional enhancements. Owners of Sony's upcoming console will be able to choose from a variety of graphical options with high resolutions and frame rates. This will allow them to enjoy the adventure with a greater depth of field, improved atmospheric effects, and more.

Regarding the PC version, PlayStation confirmed it will be compatible with its trophy system, support ultrawide monitors, and include scaling technologies such as Nvidia DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1.

The title will also bring back some of the accessibility features introduced in the sequel, like assist buttons, remappable controls, and the aforementioned haptic feedback. Finally, it was confirmed that players will be able to transfer their original save data to the remaster.
