The God of War series survived monotony and reinvented itself with its 2018 installment. The developers continued down the same path and in 2022 launched God of War Ragnarök, a sequel that expanded the narrative of the previous title and took its mechanics to the next level. Although a new audience can finally enjoy it, it faced negative reviews following its release on PC.
The Santa Monica video game debuted on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022. Players and critics praised its visuals, epic narrative, and overall combat system. It received nearly perfect scores, currently boasting an average score of 94 on Metacritic. Additionally, it was nominated for GOTY at The Game Awards.
While the latest adventure of Kratos and Atreus was well-received by the community, it wasn’t immune to controversies. Beyond the criticism it faced for alleged “forced inclusion”, it was subjected to negative reviews from some fans and was targeted by review bombing ahead of the ceremony presented by Geoff Keighley.
Now, 2 years later, God of War Ragnarök is once again in the spotlight following its official release on PC.

God of War Ragnarök arrives on Steam with mixed reviews
As promised, the former PlayStation exclusive landed on PC on September 19. It is now available on Epic Games Store and Steam for $999 MXN. Community impressions indicate that the port is of very good quality, although some are experiencing performance issues.
Additionally, God of War Ragnarök is facing review bombing on Valve’s platform due to a controversial policy from Sony. It currently has mixed reviews, with only 65% positive reviews.
If we take a look at the comments, we find that most players are complaining about optimization and, above all, the mandatory requirement to have a PSN account to play on PC. This last point became a divisive issue that sparked much discussion in 2024 after the controversy surrounding Helldivers 2.
While many might argue that the solution is as simple as creating an account and linking it with Steam, the truth is that PlayStation’s online service is missing in about 170 countries. Naturally, players living in those regions will have problems playing God of War Ragnarök on PC, despite it being a single-player experience.
“Yes, I won’t link my PSN account, especially for a single-player game,” said one user on Steam. “PSN servers went down, and I can’t log into my account. It’s hopeless. I bought a single-player game to play it by myself (…) The game is surely good, but I don’t know because I can’t play it yet,” said another person.
