Do you remember Flappy Bird? Yes, that mobile game created by Dong Nguyen that went viral in 2013 and then disappeared forever after being removed from stores. After a decade of absence and thousands of clones trying to emulate its success, the original title will return this year, completely revamped.

This is possible thanks to the Flappy Bird Foundation, a new company that acquired the license and trademark of the franchise. Their goal is to make the game available again, but with multiple improvements to offer a more complete experience for players.

Through a statement, the Flappy Bird Foundation announced that the iconic game will return in the fall of this year. The new version of Flappy Bird will first be available for browsers, and in 2025, a port for iOS and Android mobile devices will be released. Additionally, its launch is also planned for more systems that have yet to be confirmed.

The developers confirmed that the game will return with an expanded version that will respect the classic mechanics but feature new modes, characters, a progression system, and even multiplayer challenges.

“We are very excited to bring Flappy Bird back and offer a new experience that will keep players engaged for years. We have big plans for our little bird!” said Michael Roberts, the creative in charge of the franchise’s return.

What is Flappy Bird?

In case you don’t remember, Flappy Bird debuted in 2013 and instantly became the most popular mobile game of the moment. Its success was due to its simple but addictive mechanics, where players controlled a small bird that had to fly between a series of green pipes, avoiding crashing into them.

Despite its simplicity, the game became a viral challenge due to its difficulty. In 2014, Dong Nguyen decided to remove the game from app stores, stating that its success was ruining his life and that he had not anticipated such a massive reaction.

It is estimated that the game generated around $50,000 USD a day in ad revenue. After it was removed from stores, players began selling devices with the game still installed at exorbitant prices. Despite its short availability, Flappy Bird left a significant mark on pop culture and the video game industry, inspiring countless clones and all kinds of parodies.
