Grand Theft Auto VI: Industry Insider Refutes Worrisome Rumor About Rockstar's New Game

Jason Schreier spoke about the alleged changes to the launch window.

It's no exaggeration to say that Grand Theft Auto VI is shaping up to be one of the most significant releases in recent gaming history. Scheduled for release in 2025, there's been concern among the community about potential delays. Now, a trusted source has addressed a troubling rumor and reassured fans.

Previously, Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, had announced that the new installment of the open-world franchise would arrive in fall next year, which means it could be available between September 21 and December 21.

However, over the weekend, a rumor spread suggesting that GTA VI had suffered an internal delay and that developers were now targeting a 2026 release. With many questions still unanswered, a reliable insider has debunked the recent reports.

In a social media post, Jason Schreier, a respected journalist with a solid track record, addressed the recent rumors and shared some good news that should ease the concerns of worried fans.

“Internet (and my DMs) exploded over the weekend with the rumor that GTA VI will be delayed. The good news is that 6 Rockstar employees told me they haven't heard of any delay,” noted the Bloomberg reporter.

However, Jason Schreier qualified the information and shared two additional points to consider. First, he mentioned that Grand Theft Auto VI is a very large and ambitious game, so it could still be delayed at any time. “There is too much time left to say anything definitively,” he emphasized.

In a follow-up post, the journalist highlighted that the 6 Rockstar team members had said they were not informed of a delay; however, he raised the possibility that the company’s executive team might have decided to move the release date of GTA VI without notifying the staff.

That said, Jason Schreier believes that the lack of an internal announcement suggests that the rumor that spread over the weekend, attributed to insider Billsyliamgta, lacks credibility.

Could Grand Theft Auto VI still shift its release window? It's a possibility. Recall that both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were released later than initially planned. With this in mind, it’s best to manage expectations and wait for Rockstar Games and Take-Two to provide more information about the new installment's debut.
