Players Mock and Create Petition to Revive Concord; It Already Has More Signatures Than Players on Steam

The request is a joke but raises the question of whether the PlayStation FPS could return.

Concord is one of the most intriguing cases in recent gaming history. It is rare for a AAA game to fail so spectacularly that it disappears from stores just 2 weeks after its release. While we await to discover its future, a group of players has created a petition to bring it back; however, it seems to be a joke.

The online game from Firewalk Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment debuted in late August with little impact. During its launch weekend, it barely achieved a record of 697 concurrent users on Steam. Although reports indicate it performed better on PlayStation 5, it is said that it sold only around 25,000 copies across both platforms.

As a result, the developers made the difficult but logical decision to shut down the servers on September 6. At this point, it is impossible to play the multiplayer title. There is a possibility it might return under a different strategy, but even the studio does not know what comes next; however, some players have created a petition to bring it back.

Petition to Revive Concord Already Has Over 1940 Signatures

Often, we see the community create online petitions in an attempt to save a game from failure. These are genuine actions driven by true fandom; however, that is not the case with PlayStation's hero shooter.

The change.org petition is merely a joke mocking the poor performance of Firewalk Studios' title. It is named “We Were All Busy That Weekend, Please Re-Release Concord,” and clearly does not intend to attract executives' attention to revive the project.

A similar sentiment is seen in the comments section. Those who supported the petition took the opportunity to mock the failed online game.

“Please bring it back. If you do, I will personally invest $50 MMDD to keep the game alive and cover the operational costs,” said one person. “Okay, I fell asleep. But if you re-release it for free, maybe I’ll play it. And include another game… and maybe some cake,” joked another user.

“I was too busy taking care of my family (everyone loves Concord) and my pets (all named after Concord characters) to play Concord that week. Now that they are not in that situation, I have all the time needed to play Concord! Sony, if you have any Concord in your heart, please give us more Concord for the fans,” joked a third.

Despite being a joke, the petition has already gathered 1953 signatures. This means more people supported the petition than the number of players who tried the title on Steam simultaneously.

But with all this said, could Concord make a comeback? Some people theorize it might succeed if it adopts a free-to-play model; however, analysts are not optimistic.

“What’s happening with Concord is unprecedented. I see people comparing it to Anthem, and… no. Anthem was the best-selling game in its launch month in February 2019, and was the 15th best-selling title of that year. And it can still be played today,” commented Mat Piscatella from Circana.
