Sony Delivers the Final Blow to Concord and Removes Digital Copies from PS5 Players

The controversial multiplayer FPS from Firewalk Studios has disappeared from users' accounts

Concord will be remembered as one of the biggest AAA flops of recent times. Despite closing its servers and being removed from stores, its brief and turbulent history continues. In fact, it has made us once again think about the inherent risks of digital formats.

The competitive hero shooter developed by Firewalk Studios failed in all the basic aspects and received mixed reviews. Despite its good ideas and responsive controls, its overall concept simply did not capture the users' attention. As a result, it had poor commercial performance.

Just 2 weeks after its late August release, the multiplayer FPS stopped being sold and closed its servers, perhaps permanently. The few players who bought it received a refund. In an unprecedented case, it also disappeared from users' accounts.

Sony Removes Digital Copies of Concord from PlayStation Network Accounts

In recent hours, the community turned to social media to report a very curious situation. It turns out that Concord has disappeared from PSN accounts of players who purchased it. This means they cannot even download it, as attempting to do so will result in a error message.

“Thank you for being a valued PlayStation customer. The servers for Concord became unavailable on September 6, 2024. The game is no longer playable, and as a result, we have removed this content from your account,” reads the message.

After checking the PlayStation 5, we found that the multiplayer game is still in our library; however, it has a lock icon. Consequently, we were unable to view its description or download it to the console. Instead, a simple error text appears.

When Sony announced the shutdown of Concord, they emphasized that fans “would no longer have access to the game”; however, it is concerning that they also removed it completely from players' accounts.

Even though the server shutdown meant that players would not have been able to play Concord in the first place, removing the game from consoles and PSN accounts is an unprecedented action. Generally, companies still allow users to download games they purchased, even if online functionalities are disabled.

According to TheGamer, the physical edition of Concord still allows the game to be installed on the PlayStation 5. Naturally, you cannot progress beyond the start screen due to the shutdown. In any case, this story is a bitter reminder that we do not truly own the digital titles we purchase.

But tell us, what do you think about this situation? Let us know in the comments.
