PlayStation 5 Pro has been confirmed by Sony, and this iteration of their base console is designed for those seeking the Holy Grail of 4K at 60 fps on a home gaming system—a promise that the standard model didn’t fully deliver, despite being part of its promotional campaign. However, the improved experience won’t just apply to native PS5 titles; thousands of PS4 games will also benefit.

Will PS4 Games Get Better Performance on PS5 Pro? Sony Says Yes

In the official release about the PS5 Pro published on the PlayStation Official Blog, Sony revealed the technology they’ll apply to PS4 games to ensure they look better than ever. According to the Japanese company, last-gen titles will see improved performance and stability when running on a PS5 Pro: “Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can be applied to more than 8500 backward-compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature can stabilize or improve the performance of compatible PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced image quality for PS4 games is also available to improve resolution in certain PS4 titles.”

With that in mind, the long-awaited framerate boost for Bloodborne could finally become a reality, as it’s part of the 8500+ PS4 games playable on PS5 thanks to backward compatibility.

According to Sony, the reason behind developing and releasing the PS5 Pro was that most standard PS5 players preferred “Performance” mode over “Fidelity” mode in games that offered these visual options. The new console won’t require this choice, as it will run games at 4K and 60 fps, fulfilling fans’ wishes.

While the power of the PS5 Pro is exciting, part of the community is unhappy with the $699 USD price, as well as the lack of a disc drive and vertical stand, both of which add to the overall cost.
