Sony reveals why it developed the PS5 Pro; the company considers it the most powerful console they've ever created

The PlayStation 5 iteration is real and will be released this year

The PlayStation 5 Pro is real. Moments ago, Mark Cerny, the hardware architect responsible for Sony's current console, confirmed that the rumored more powerful model will arrive this year. During the presentation, he revealed the reason why the Japanese company ventured to create and release this version.

Why did Sony decide to make a PS5 Pro?

During the PS5 Pro presentation, Mark Cerny addressed the context that motivated Sony to offer a more powerful version of the PS5. According to the developer, through the company's internal metrics, they discovered that 75% of PS5 users choose "Performance" mode in games that offer this option. Let's remember that in the current generation, consoles have the ability for their hardware to focus on visual quality and details, sacrificing frames per second, or vice versa, sacrificing visual quality in favor of a higher frame rate.

The PS5 Pro exists because most PS5 users prefer performance over graphics

According to Mark Cerny, PS5 players' preferences shaped the direction of the PS5 Pro project, as 3/4 of users were willing to sacrifice graphics for better performance, ensuring 60 fps in their games.

With this in mind, the Sony developer revealed that the PS5 Pro puts an end to this choice by offering 4K at 60 frames per second minimum, meaning that players will finally have both the visual fidelity and the fps rate they desire at the same time.

According to the official details, this is possible because the PS5 Pro has a "GPU with 67% more compute units than the current PS5 console and memory that's 28% faster. Overall, this allows for rendering up to 45% faster, making the gaming experience much smoother."

The PS5 Pro will be released on November 7th and will cost $699 USD, although it does not include a disc drive or a support base for vertical positioning.
