There is bad news for PlayStation fans, as Sony has decided to increase the price of PlayStation 5, the DualSense, and the PlayStation Portal. Not all players need to worry, as this hardware price hike will apply only in one country, at least for now.

In a statement, the company revealed that its gaming products will be more expensive in Japan starting on September 2. Sony justified the increases by stating they are due to fluctuations and challenges in the global economy affecting its business.

According to the details, PlayStation 5 will see an increase of ¥13,000 JPY, which is approximately $90 USD at the current exchange rate. As a result, the standard console will go from costing ¥66,980 JPY to ¥79,980 JPY. Its final price will be around $552 USD.

On the other hand, the PlayStation 5 without a disc drive will go from ¥59,980 JPY to ¥72,980 JPY, so Japanese consumers will need to shell out around $504 USD to bring a system home.

Unfortunately, the increases don’t stop there. Sony also announced that PlayStation 5 accessories will be more expensive starting in September. The DuelSense will now cost the equivalent of $80 USD, so players in the region will no longer be able to get it for $65 USD.

Lastly, the PlayStation Portal mobile device will increase from approximately $205 to $240 USD. As mentioned, players in other regions don’t need to worry for now, as the increases have only been confirmed for Japan.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Sony has raised the prices of its console. Because of this, many fear that the increase in Japan could be replicated in other regions of the world in the coming months.
