CEO Christoph Hartmann praised the hybrid console

As the Nintendo Switch approaches the end of its lifecycle, fans are wondering what's next. We already know that a new console is in production and that the announcement will come sooner or later, but most details remain a mystery. While we wait, a company has expressed its intention to support the new hardware.

We are referring to Amazon Games, which has under its belt some high-profile games: from the troubled New World to the popular Lost Ark. Notably, none of those experiences are available for the Nintendo Switch, while the RPG Throne and Liberty will only arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S next fall.

Since these are very ambitious projects, it's easy to see why they are absent from the hybrid console of the Japanese company. That said, could that change with the release of the rumored Nintendo Switch 2?

In a recent interview with IGN, Christoph Hartmann, CEO of Amazon Games, spoke on various topics related to the video game industry. In addition to revealing new details about the Lord of the Rings MMORPG and the upcoming Tomb Raider project, he talked about Nintendo’s new console.

When asked if the company is closely following the situation with the new hardware from the Japanese company, the executive responded affirmatively and revealed that they are eager to release their games on that console. However, he has one big request: that it launches when it’s ready to avoid problems.

“Yes, obviously we plan to develop games for the console and I can’t wait for it to be released. Honestly, I’d prefer they wait a year and get it perfect rather than rush it to market and then we all complain because it doesn’t work. Switch is a fantastic product, so I can wait another year if necessary,” said the head of Amazon Games.

Christoph Hartmann did not reveal further information about which games could come to the hypothetical Nintendo Switch 2. However, let’s remember that during gamescom 2024, King of Meat, a charming multiplayer game developed by Glowmade and published by Amazon Games, was announced, which will arrive on PC and consoles, including the current hybrid console from the Big N.

In early May, Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed the development of a new console and announced that the reveal would take place sometime during this fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2025. That said, reports indicate that its debut might be further away than many expected.

But tell us, what do you think of Christoph Hartmann's statements? Let us know in the comments.
