One of the bad news shared recently was the delay of Avowed, the highly anticipated RPG from Obsidian Entertainment currently in development for Xbox and PC. However, it's just a matter of a few more weeks before we can enjoy it. According to Microsoft's top executives, they didn’t want their major releases to overlap too much in the second half of 2024. This has only increased the hype, especially after what the studio recently revealed.
Avowed will have dozens of endings, though not as you imagine
During an interview with IGN, Carrie Patel, director of Avowed, hinted that the role-playing and adventure game will feature dozens of endings. Although she refrained from giving an estimated figure, the creative director mentioned that the conclusion and what the player sees after the peculiarities of their journey will be in the double digits—meaning there will be at least 10 endings and at most 99, although this could confuse players. The developer clarified that she was referring to the images that will appear with each ending, not necessarily that each conclusion will involve significant changes in the story and gameplay experiences, which is common in RPGs.
Regarding this, Carrie Patel reaffirmed that what happens in Avowed throughout the adventure will be determined by the players' decisions, so the richness of the game lies in every progression, and the ending will be the icing on the cake: "Your ending is really the sum total of your choices throughout the game," stated the developer.
The official release date for Avowed is February 18, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Before it was revealed that the game wouldn't release this year, Obsidian shared great news for players: they announced that there will be a third-person perspective for those who want to experience this adventure in that way. The original style of Avowed is first-person, but the studio took note of players who were discouraged by this and went to work to provide a different option. The result? More players are now committed to playing in third-person.
