The topic of exclusivity in the video game industry has been a recurring one in 2024. In recent months, we’ve seen big titles that first debuted for Xbox and PC make their way to PlayStation, and the same has happened in the other direction. As such, a popular 2021 video game has finally made its way to Microsoft platforms.
The PlayStation 5 launched with a large catalog, but there were also titles available on PS4. Many of these titles were released simultaneously on PC as well. While fans were happy that these experiences could be enjoyed on multiple platforms, some lamented the lack of exclusivity.
That said, Xbox fans will be thrilled to know that, nearly 3 years later, they can finally sink their teeth into one of the standout releases of 2021.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits arrives on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
Of course, we’re referring to Kena: Bridge of Spirits, the charming fantasy video game developed by Ember Lab. It first launched for PS4, PS5, and PC via the Epic Games Store in September 2021, and a year later, it landed on Steam.
In April 2024, a registration on the ESRB, the video game rating board for the United States, revealed that the action-adventure title was on its way to Microsoft platforms. Shortly after, in June, the developers confirmed the rumors and revealed the release date.
After a short wait, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is finally available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It was released in both physical and digital formats on August 15. Notably, this version includes exclusive content in the form of pirate hats for the Rot, the cute spirits Kena can find along the way.
The Ember Lab video game costs $39.99 USD on Microsoft platforms, equivalent to $709 MXN. The good news is that it’s currently on sale, so players can buy it for only $31.99 USD or $567.20 MXN.
However, there is also bad news. In a recent interview, Josh Grier, the studio’s operations director, confirmed that there are no current plans to bring Kena: Bridge of Spirits to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
The Xbox Series X version of the action title runs at 60 fps in resolutions up to 4K, while the port for Xbox Series S runs at 30 fps.
The release of this former PlayStation and PC exclusive comes shortly after reports surfaced that Forza Horizon 5 from Xbox could be on its way to Sony platforms.
What is Kena: Bridge of Spirits?
For those unfamiliar, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a narrative-driven title where players step into the shoes of Kena, a young spirit guide who seeks the sacred mountain shrine to save the trapped spirits of a forgotten village.
The protagonist is aided by the Rot, who are cute and shy spirits that allow for the use of special abilities and the clearing of corruption from the village. Thanks to its platforming system and combat mechanics, the game received very positive reviews. It currently holds a score of 81 on Metacritic.
