PlayStation reported positive figures in its latest financial report

Sony has just revealed the latest financial report of PlayStation. Thanks to this, we know that their hardware sales have decreased; however, their operating income has increased, and they also had good results in terms of software and services.

The company also shared the updated sales figure for PlayStation 5. The console has already shipped more than 61 million units worldwide, so Sony expects good results in the coming periods of the fiscal year. This is despite its first-party games lineup not being as strong as in past periods.

Sony revealed that PlayStation 5 has already sold 61.8 million units worldwide. This means the console shipped another 2.4 million units during the last quarter, which ended on June 30. The company registered a drop in its hardware sales compared to the same period last fiscal year, as there was a decrease of 0.9 million units. This represents 27% fewer sales.

Despite this, the rest of the brand's numbers are positive, especially in the area of software and services. We know that game sales revenue registered year-over-year growth of approximately 20%. Additionally, in-game sales and additional content increased by 37%.

During the last quarter, PS5 and PS4 sold 53.6 million games, of which 6 million were first-party game copies. According to the figures, 80% of the sales were made in digital format.

Although the company also experienced a decline in software sales compared to the same period last fiscal year, it attributes its good results to the increase in service sales, which include PlayStation Plus.

Lastly, it was revealed that PlayStation Network now has 116 million active users per month, an increase of 8 million compared to the 108 million users of the last fiscal year. Due to all of the above, Sony adjusted its forecast for PlayStation and made a 3% adjustment in terms of sales and operating income projections. So it expects slightly better results for the coming months.
