Now it’s possible to build in the classic FPS by id Software

The challenge of running the original DOOM on anything possible continues, and now a developer has managed to execute it within Fortnite. That’s not all; he took advantage of his unique project to add Epic Games' Battle Royale mechanics to the id Software FPS.

Jackson Clayton, an independent developer, shared a video on his social media to showcase the results of his unusual initiative. The result surprised fans of both franchises, as it is now possible to build in DOOM just like in Fortnite.

Clayton stated that he couldn’t fully detail how he managed to run DOOM within Fortnite, but he assured that he learned a lot by trying and succeeding. The developer only explained that he exported the E1M1 files from DOOM as a 3D model.

To do this, he used Ultimate DOOM Builder, an editor for the FPS levels, and brought it into Unreal Editor for Fortnite, Epic Games’ tool for designing, developing, and publishing video games. Subsequently, the developer focused on removing some engine effects, gave it a pixelated look, and used tools to create a spin effect that looks quite good.

As if that weren’t enough, Clayton added the building mechanics from Fortnite to DOOM. Thanks to this, it’s possible to create platforms and all sorts of structures within the classic FPS, something that will undoubtedly bewilder more than one id Software fan.

The developer explained that it was a challenging experience, but in the end, he was satisfied with the results. In recent years, the community has managed to run DOOM in unexpected places, like a lawnmower, intestinal bacteria, and even within DOOM itself. Below you can see Clayton’s video:
