Layoffs hit Xbox again; Microsoft to make more cuts soon

Brand's business manager recently confirmed his departure from the company

Earlier this year, Microsoft laid off 1900 workers from its gaming division. This affected various teams including Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard. Additionally, it closed studios such as Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin as part of a strategy to cut costs.

As recent reports have stated, the cuts continue and there are new layoffs at Xbox. This week, Jessie Thomas, Senior Business PM of Culture Programs, confirmed the elimination of her position and her departure from the company. In light of this, a reliable source stated that Thomas will not be the only one affected, so a whole round of layoffs is expected in the coming days.

Xbox suffers more layoffs and further cuts expected

Through her social media, Thomas shared a message to reveal that her position was eliminated at Microsoft and to thank Xbox for the opportunity. She joined the ranks of the tech giant in 2015 and, since 2022, held the position of Senior Business PM of Culture Programs.

Tom Warren, a journalist from The Verge, painted a bleak picture. He stated that there will be more layoffs at Xbox this week and that Microsoft laid off Thomas while she was on vacation.

He later emphasized that Thomas is not the only person who will lose her job. It is important to note that, for now, neither Microsoft nor Xbox has confirmed further layoffs. However, various reports suggest that the companies plan more cuts.

According to the information, Xbox staff were notified some time ago about a budget reduction and the possibility of more cuts to come. We will have to wait for more information on this matter.

2024 has been one of the worst years for the industry in terms of layoffs. Many of the major companies significantly reduced their workforce during the first months of the year, and it seems that the layoffs will not stop in the near future.
