A State of Decay 2 player moved the entire community this weekend by sharing an emotional story. It turns out that Undead Labs, the Xbox studio behind the title, immortalized his father in the game after he passed away three years ago.
The fan, known as EmbarrassedBudget859 on Reddit, shared that he had contacted Undead Labs years ago to see if it was possible to pay tribute to his father within the game. The player hoped that the studio would add his family member's name to one of the random survivors in the sequel. However, Undead Labs went above and beyond, immortalizing the person in an unexpected way.

EmbarrassedBudget859 had no idea if Undead Labs had fulfilled his request from years ago, but this weekend he received the surprise of his life. While playing, he found a nod to his father and, to his delight, it was more than just his name.
The studio created a character named Bruce Allen Buncombe as a tribute to the player and his father. EmbarrassedBudget859 found him and immediately knew it was the homage he had requested years ago. This was because the character's description matched that of his father, who ran a medical practice and led a peaceful life.
