Sony decided to bet once again on virtual reality with PlayStation VR2. However, everything indicates that the company is regretting it and is not at all happy with the commercial performance of its device for the PlayStation 5.
According to a recent report, the company will move away from PlayStation VR2 and develop very few games for the system. In fact, it is said that from now on Sony will approve very few titles and currently has only a couple of them in development.
PlayStation VR2 might lose support from Sony
Android Central reports that Sony has lost interest in PlayStation VR2. According to their sources, the company will make significant cuts to virtual reality game funding. This means that developers interested in the technology will have "very few opportunities for virtual reality game development."
As a result, PlayStation VR2 will have very few games from Sony's studios. Currently, the company has only 2 active developments for the system. The report states that there is even a possibility that these productions might not debut, as the industry is going through a tough time with layoffs and studio closures that have affected PlayStation.
However, this does not mean that PlayStation VR2 will be left without new games. Various third-party studios are working on productions for the device. In fact, the most recent State of Play featured a couple of announcements for the hardware.
Additionally, Sony is preparing to launch an adapter that will allow players to connect their PlayStation VR2 to a computer. This way, they can enjoy a vast library of games already available on platforms like Steam.
Sony has not confirmed the report and declined to comment on it, so it remains a rumor. Despite this, it is still concerning news for fans of the brand. It's worth remembering that devices like the PlayStation Vita came to an end due to the lack of software support from Sony, and it seems that the same story might repeat with PlayStation VR2.
