Silent Hill 2 is one of the most influential horror games in history. With this in mind, Bloober Team took on a monumental task: creating a remake that respects the essence of the original work while modernizing its more archaic elements. Whether it meets expectations remains to be seen, but the latest previews have divided fans' opinions.
The new version of the 2001 survival horror was one of the big surprises of the last State of Play, even featuring a more than 10-minute showcase by Konami. This way, we already know the release date and other details.
The trailers showcased Bloober Team's work. Unfortunately, the images failed to please all fans; while some criticized the atmosphere and animations, others slammed the combat system. However, much of the conversation focused on the new character designs.

Silent Hill 2 fans criticize María and Angela's new looks in the remake
Previously, fans criticized the design of James Sunderland, arguing that he looks too old in the Silent Hill 2 remake. Soon after, it was revealed that the developers had apparently altered the protagonist's appearance. Some fans appreciated the change, while others preferred the original version.
Now, the community has once again expressed their discontent. This time, they criticized the look of Angela Orosco, a 19-year-old who crosses paths with James during his journey through the town. Critics of the new design claim she looks "ugly" and that her new look strays too far from the original version.
Most complaints focus on a screenshot showing an unflattering close-up of the character's face. Other users claim she is overweight or looks like a man. However, aside from the changes to her face, her outfit remains almost identical.
Similarly, many fans defended the new design, arguing that unlike in the 2001 game, Angela now looks like a young adult in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
On the other hand, María is a more complicated case. Bloober Team significantly changed her design and attire. While she is still recognizable, her leopard print top and skirt were replaced by a black dress and a crimson jacket. The gold jewelry also disappeared.
In the story of Silent Hill 2, there is a very important reason why María dresses this way. Therefore, die-hard fans believe the new redesign is further proof that Bloober Team doesn't understand the original work's messages.
Of course, there are also those who argue that the changes in the characters' looks are a result of the agenda that aims for games to be "woke" and "politically correct."
"The Silent Hill 2 remake is shaping up to be a real joke. I'm a fan of the original, and this reflects it in every way. People would really accept anything they're given. It's woke trash," said a disappointed user. "Silent Hill 2 was revealed just over an hour ago, and I already see people saying Angela is 'woke' because now she has a slightly chubbier face," wrote one defender of the new design.
But tell us, did you like the new designs? Do you think the criticisms are justified? Let us know in the comments.
