Minecraft will have an animated series on Netflix thanks to the studio behind Sonic Prime

Mojang Studios prepared a very special announcement as part of the celebrations for the 15th anniversary of Minecraft. The developer confirmed this morning the production of an animated series that will be broadcast on Netflix and will be handled by a studio that has worked on various series for the streaming platform.

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we know that the Minecraft series will be handled by WildBrain, a production company that has worked on Ninjago: Dragons Rising and Carmen Sandiego. The company is no stranger to the world of video games, as it also created Sonic Prime for SEGA.

Now, they will work with Netflix and Mojang Studios to offer Minecraft fans an animated production. We know that the series will feature an original story starring new characters. Thus, it will expand the universe of the franchise, which has become a favorite among players worldwide.

Currently, there are no details about the creative team behind the series, and no release window has been revealed. It is worth noting that Minecraft will also have a live-action movie thanks to Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.

The film will feature renowned actors such as Jack Black and Jason Momoa. Its release is scheduled for April 2025. The animated series is another surprise for the 15th anniversary of the franchise.
