The boost provided by the TV series to the sale of franchise games benefited the company

Part of the goal of video game series and movies in this new era is to give a new commercial boost to franchises, and in cases where the productions have been successful, sales increases have been recorded, allowing for revenue and profits beyond the traditional model. The latest case is that of the Fallout series on Prime Video, as it is estimated to have generated tens of millions of dollars in revenue for Bethesda.

Bethesda generated $80 million in revenue thanks to the success of the Fallout series on Prime Video

According to a report from VG Insights, the success of the Fallout series on Prime Video has brought very good results for Bethesda, as it led to an increase in sales of two of the franchise's games, in addition to what was obtained from the use and exploitation of the IP license. Regarding this, and considering only two games like Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and the deal with Amazon for the production of the series, Bethesda would have pocketed $80 million in a matter of weeks.

In that sense, it is estimated that the increase in sales of Fallout 4 translated into revenues of $22 million; as for Fallout 76, $16 million would have been generated from sales and $12 million from in-game user expenses. Finally, the deal between Bethesda and Amazon would have left $30 million for the video game company.

Fallout 4 was the game most benefited after the success of the Prime Video series, as it finally received the update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as visual improvements on PC. Although this caused problems for the modding community and some errors on consoles, Bethesda responded promptly to fix them.

The success of the Prime Video series was enough to guarantee a second season, so it is a fact that we will continue to see the IP in another medium while we wait for news about the highly anticipated Fallout 5.
