“It's disappointing”: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a miss, reiterates Warner Bros.

Sales fell short of expectations and impacted the company's numbers

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League generated a lot of expectations with its initial reveal. However, the excitement and charm fizzled when it was learned that it was a game-as-a-service made by Rocksteady, a studio that had gained fame and prestige for Batman: Arkham.

The concept of the game did not convince fans and, moreover, its reception was affected by various controversies that happened before its release. Due to this and more, the title simply failed in sales. This was acknowledged by Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this year.

The company just gave a new financial report, where it reiterated that the superhero/villain game was a resounding failure commercially. Hence, its numbers are not as favorable as expected.

According to the details, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League generated far less revenue than Hogwarts Legacy during the same 3-month period the company reported in its report. The numbers reveal that its failure had an estimated $200 million impact on Warner Bros. Discovery's revenues.

For such reason, David Zaslav, head of the company, called the performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League disappointing. Gunnar Wiedenfels, chief financial officer, reiterated that the title did not perform well in the market and that this impacted its figures.

“The $400 million+ year-over-year decline during Q1 was primarily due to the very tough comp we faced in games against the success of Hogwart's Legacy last year in the first quarter, in conjunction with the disappointing Suicide Squad release this past quarter, which we impaired, leading to a $200 million impact to earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisatio during the first quarter," Wiedenfels said.

Due to the game's failure, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to move away from AAA games to focus on mobile and free-to-play titles. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is still active, but the outlook doesn't look favorable at all.

Of course, the situation worries fans of Rocksteady, a studio that has proven its great talent on several occasions. Some gamers fear that the team is at risk and that Warner Bros. Discovery may decide to shut it down because of its recent failure.
