SHIFT UP made adjustments to improve response time

Stellar Blade has just debuted and many are surely already playing it. If you were expecting fast-paced action combat, you may have noticed a slight delay, especially when blocking and dodging. What is the reason for this, is it normal? SHIFT UP responds.

Some players have referred to this delay in Eve's actions, which they noticed since the demo, as lag, which in the vast majority of cases is something to be avoided, especially in fast-paced combat titles like Stellar Blade. However, in the case of this project, this delay was deliberately chosen as a creative decision.

Does Stellar Blade have delay or lag?

We know this thanks to a direct confirmation made by the project leader and head of SHIFT UP, Kim Hyung-Tae, when questioned precisely about this observation made by players based on the demo.

The executive admitted that, indeed, in Stellar Blade, there is a delay of half a second from when one presses a button to dodge or block an attack until the ability is reflected on the screen, and interestingly, he explained that it is intentional, a creative decision they made so that the animation didn't feel abrupt and out of place with the animation style that Stellar Blade offers.

"Our intention was that when you press a button, a movement would suddenly take place because we felt that it was not suitable for the animation style of this game. So when you press a button, the ability itself activates and the movement is performed, but the animation of the movement is something that occurs afterwards," the developer expressed (via 4Gamer).

Update reduces lag in Stellar Blade

Hyung-Tae also mentioned that the delay cannot be further reduced and it is solely in the animation, not in the action itself. It should also be clear that it is independent of the screen on which the game is run. However, Hyung-Tae warned that this delay may be more pronounced depending on the visual equipment on which the game is displayed.

Thus, the creative mentioned that he will be attentive to player feedback and if he considers it to be a problem for gameplay, he said he is open to the possibility of modifying it.

In fact, it seems they have already gotten to work, as it is one of the adjustments included in the day 1 patch, which will make "the window for blocking and counterattacking more responsive," as well as the registration of basic hits.

Have you played Stellar Blade? What did you think of the delay in the blocking animations?
