Nintendo Switch: This Great Game Disappeared from the eShop, but There's Good News

Players can now purchase Square Enix's JRPG again

The digital format offers many advantages, as the idea of buying a game and downloading it immediately is very appealing. However, it also raises serious concerns regarding preservation and consumer rights. With this in mind, alarms went off when a acclaimed JRPG disappeared from the Nintendo Switch store.

In recent years, we've seen countless cases of games that, for one reason or another, stop being sold on digital storefronts. This makes acquiring them extremely difficult, even impossible in certain situations.

In this context, players expressed their concern when they discovered that Octopath Traveler, the acclaimed role-playing game from Square Enix, was removed from the Nintendo Switch eShop without apparent reason in early March. To date, the reason behind this decision remains unknown.

One month later, Octopath Traveler returns to Nintendo Switch

Fortunately, Nintendo calmed the waters and assured that the Japanese title would eventually return to the hybrid console's digital store. Additionally, it confirmed that those who purchased it before it disappeared could still download it without restrictions.

There's good news now, as Octopath Traveler is available again. Through a social media post, Square Enix confirmed that the JRPG can now be purchased on the Nintendo Switch eShop, although they refrained from providing more information about what prompted its removal in the first place. "Thank you for your patience," concludes the brief statement.

If we visit the eShop, we can confirm that indeed the JRPG is available again. Currently, the digital version costs $1199 MXN.

When the title disappeared from the hybrid console's digital store in March, many fans speculated that it was because Square Enix had acquired the publishing rights for the fantasy video game.

Octopath Traveler originally debuted for Nintendo Switch in 2018, and shortly after made its way to PC, Google Stadia, and Xbox One. This situation served as a pretext for PlayStation fans to request a port for Sony's consoles.
