What will happen to the games and projects of this team specialized in RTS?

While SEGA is experiencing a great moment and is one of the most important publishers and developers in the industry, certain businesses haven't fared well, and the Japanese company has also been impacted by financial readjustments. Unfortunately, this has resulted in the sale of a studio specialized in real-time strategy games and the dismissal of staff in Europe.

SEGA announces the sale of Relic Entertainment, a studio specialized in RTS

SEGA announced the sale of Relic Entertainment, a Canadian studio known for its work on franchises like Homeworld, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, and for developing Age of Empires IV. Regarding this, the Japanese company announced that Relic is now owned by Emona Capital LLP, an investment group that has recently shown interest in video games, taking advantage of the lean times and the declining prices of some studios in the market.

Furthermore, SEGA confirmed the dismissal of 240 employees in Europe spread across Creative Assembly, SEGA of Europe, and SEGA Hardlight.

Regarding this sale and downsizing, Jurgen Post, head of SEGA of Europe, stated: "SEGA is working closely with Relic on this change, and we wish them the best for the future. I want to sincerely apologize for the concern and understandable distress this news will cause, particularly for those directly affected. These decisions have been incredibly difficult to make and are the result of meticulous consideration and deliberation with leadership teams across the company. The change is necessary to secure the future of our games business and to ensure we are well positioned to deliver the best possible experiences to our players in the future."

Lastly, Relic Entertainment confirmed to VGC that support for their existing games on the market is guaranteed, and there are no issues in that regard after the sale. Likewise, they celebrated the end of their relationship with SEGA as it provides them an opportunity to be independent.
